The mission of Five Tuition is to help students be successful in school (and in life). For that reason, we try our best to ensure that our approach is in alignment to and not in competition with The Australian Curriculum.
"Binari listened and explained the topic, then asked questions of Maya to ensure she had an understanding. Basically it was communication and a genuine desire to have the student understand the topic. Maya felt she had learnt and problems were clarified with Binari."
This was the response offered by a parent when asked why her daughter bonded with Binari.
My most memorable tutoring experience was with a particular student whom I tutored in VCE Further Mathematics. In the beginning, this student struggled to score well on tests. They also seemed to also get anxious easily. Because Further Maths was one of my favourite subjects at school, I offered plenty of tips and tricks to help them score well and eventually achieve the study score they had aimed for.
Are some people born naturally more intelligent than others? Or, is intelligence a characteristic that can be nurtured?
The nature vs nurture debate on intelligence is contentious. While it is generally agreed that both hereditary and environment account for a person’s intelligence, the jury’s still out on the side that has a stronger influence.
At Five Tuition, we prefer to think of intelligence as an adjective to describe an action a person does rather than as an adjective to describe a person. As an organisation with a mission to help students succeed in school and in life, it is far more helpful to identify actions that lead to successful outcomes. It would then be possible to teach these intelligent actions to students, for them to practise them and, eventually personalise them in their given contexts.
